Red Buffalo Coffee & Tea is a community oriented coffee and tea house that seeks to provide exceptional service and quality products to Silverthorne's residents and visitors.
Founded in 2010 by Erin Young, Red Buffalo Cafe seeks to foster a sense of community and home. Often her family can be seen running around the cafe. Erin, family, and staff all believe in giving back and regularly volunteer with local, national, and global initiatives.
Carbon Offsets- We currently run all LED and Halogen bulbs from the bathrooms to the overhead lights. We also insulate our building and piping and thus use ZERO therms of gas to heat our unit.
Sourcing- Over 80% of our products come from an 80 mile radius. We also ask our suppliers that ship to us to ship using recyclable materials.
Community Action- Adopted 1/2 Mile of Blue River Clean Up and partnering with community organizations for sustainability education.
Coffee shops help form a sense of community. Whether people come to chat with friends or conduct business with associates, coffee shops around the world are a gathering place for people. Because we consider Silverthorne such a good home, we continually do what we can to support our great community as they help support us. For example, starting in 2017, Red Buffalo led the charge with the Silverthorne Chapter of the Summit Chamber of Commerce to eliminate school lunch debt for the Summit School District Elementary Schools. This initiative has raised over $20,000 for kids lunches.
Erin is the proud owner here at Red Buffalo. When Josh came to us he said “Erin is simultaneously the weirdest and coolest person I know.” That has my favorite quote because it is perfect for her. You can catch her ripping lines down the mountain, and judging anything from a small local rail jam to X-Games and Dew Tour. It’s just as cool to hear her nerd about coffee (or classical music). Her passion for it shows in her knowledge about it (ask her about the boiling temperature at elevation sometime). Erin’s love for coffee and the community is amazing. Stop in on a weekend (when COVID cases are down) to hear some music from completely local artists! I’m sure if you’ve been around the county for a while you already know Erin, but if you don’t hopefully you get to meet her here.
Kristy is our general manager here at Red Buffalo, stepping into this position after a year of excitement and success with us. Every morning Kristy is behind the bar her rainbow hair will greet you with a smile, and of course a joke. Kristy has lived in the county for 11 years, and in Frisco with her husband, for the last five. Now, they have added an addition to their family, Miss Piggy, their beautiful pit bull puppy. She has all of the energy, and you’ll often find Kristy chasing her all over the county, both of them making friends. When you stop into Red Buffalo I’m sure Kristy will become one of your friends!
Dana is the assistant manager here at Red Buffalo, starting over a year ago with Kristy. She’ll try and catch anyone she knows in a long conversation, and often try and make you someone that she knows. She’s lived in the county for three years, and now resides in Montezuma with her boyfriend, brother, and cat. If she’s not at work then you’ll most likely find her somewhere in the woods camping, with her cat hanging out in the tent. She’d love to discuss your next adventure with you when she comes in.
Maddi is our head barista here, coming to us about a year ago with a resume, and starting soon after! Maddi lives in Copper Mountain, with her boyfriend, and sweet puppy Henna. Maddi will greet everyone with a smile, and a genuine care about you. She’s always outside, even gardening in the summer, because of her love of the outdoors. You’ll always find her exploring Copper with her lovely Henna. Maddi can’t wait to greet you with a smiling face, and learn where you’re from in the process.
Heidi has been around for a while now. . . we can't shake her, and we aren't mad about it! Her and her husband live in Wildernest with their dog, cat, and recent addition, LB, their daughter. You'll usually catch her unexpectedly helping out, with a cute LB strapped to her.
Josh has proven to be a great addition to the team. (Even if it is just because we need someone to take the trash out haha.) I can only say that because you’ll find him cracking just as many jokes about us behind the bar. He came to us from Keystone, and is as ambitious about coffee as he is about all of his outdoor activities. You may catch him before, or after the climbing gym while he’s not on duty at Red Buffalo, but on or off duty he’ll definitely be cracking a joke. Come say hi while Josh is working, you might get the chance to hear a great idea or joke!
Nat began at Red Buffalo in September, coming us originally from Colorado Springs. They’ve made the move up to Summit County, and is loving it! They adopted their pit bull mix, Maggie, and they have countless places to adventure. You’ll find Nat always ready to attack the next task, and always working hard. We are loving having Nat as an addition to our team, with an attitude that will make anyone smile. Come in and grab a coffee from Nat, I’m sure you’ll share a laugh too!
